This seaside enclave, perfect for hiking, biking and kayaking or for browsing through the many upscale boutiques and galleries, is centrally located between San Diego proper and North County San Diego. The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is a fun and educational day excursion by day and special event venue by night.
San Diego's North County is renowned for its luxurious resort properties, premier golf courses and seaside orientation. Del Mar is perhaps best known for the summertime Del Mar Races, horseracing at its best, where the turf meets the surf. Carlsbad, with its many beaches, also features hiking trails along Batiquitos Lagoon; fantastic shopping; Legoland California; and the picture-perfect Flower Fields. From Carlsbad, heading northeast, we arrive in Temecula, where a grape escape includes tours and tastings at a variety of area wineries. At mid-point between is North County's San Diego Wild Animal Park, a special treat for those of all ages.
