Showcasing Las Vegas!
ACCESS Destination Services has been privileged to work with many of you, our valued clients, in our Southern California destinations of San Diego, Palm Springs, Los Angeles, and Orange County . With our client-driven, regional expansion into Las Vegas, the Vegas Office of ACCESS Destination Services is “on the map” with a staffed office since 2002.
With the guidance of ACCESS partner, Barb Smith, DMCP and General Manager, Ken Smith, the sales efforts of the Las Vegas office are headed by Leiandra Gaskill, Sales Manager. Leiandra is a veteran of almost 15 years in the hospitality industry, beginning her career at Marriott's Rancho Las Palmas Resort in the Palm Springs area, and subsequently joining the ACCESS Palm Springs team in 1996. Finding the desert climate appealing, Leiandra moved to Las Vegas in 1998 and loves all that this exciting city and its surrounding areas have to offer.
Leiandra and Program Manager, Heather Abel, have been responsible for the successful program operations for clients such as Ceridian, Microsoft, Colliers International and PacifiCare to name a few. Feedback from Colliers International addresses our goal of complete customer satisfaction and confidence. “Heather Abel did an excellent job onsite and took charge of running the evening so that I could actually relax and enjoy the event. That doesn't often happen. I really enjoyed working with Leiandra. I gave her an overall concept of what we were trying to accomplish with the gaming evening and she put the entire event together. Feedback from our clients has been excellent!”
Says Ken Smith, General Manager of the Las Vegas office: “The time was right to launch an expansion into Las Vegas and we are excited about the business opportunities in this city. We see great potential for growth and development for ACCESS based on continued client commitment to support our efforts in Las Vegas .”
Contact Leiandra Gaskill for your next conference, incentive program, or special event at L.Gaskill@accessdmc.com.

Palm Springs
The Circus is coming to Palm Springs ! The Palm Springs Planning Commission voted unanimously to allow a Cirque du Soleil-type show, “Cirque Dreams”, to operate in a newly constructed 1,000 seat pavilion across from the Palm Springs Art Museum . This magnificent temporary Pavilion tent structure replaces a section of the former Desert Fashion Plaza and is expected to boost the economy of the downtown area and be part of a new theater district with its proximity to “The (Fabulous Palm Springs) Follies.” Bathed in a soft glow of amber light, this futuristic, mid-century design features a performance area, lobby and stadium seating for 1,000.
The first production “Cirque Dreams” is conceived and directed by renowned producer Neil Goldberg of Cirque Productions. A unique and imaginative combination of colorful design and amazing performance artistry, the 90-minute show is an exhilarating extravaganza featuring an international cast of inventive acrobats, loose-limbed contortionists, chiffon-draped aerialists and sculpted men of strength.
During the summer months, the Pavilion will continue to showcase fine entertainment to downtown Palm Springs with Broadway musicals, special comedy performers and other outstanding original presentations. Hoping to capitalize on the success of tent shows throughout the United States, Palm Springs has great expectations for this fabulous enhancement to the cultural district. ACCESS Destination Services is very excited to introduce this venue to our valued clients.

Tired of Wine and Cheese Pairings? Consider wine and chocolate tasting at your next dinner or special event for a taste of something different. One of the most common mistakes people make when pairing wine and chocolate is to pick a wine that is too dry. Generally it is a good idea to choose a wine which is at least as sweet, or sweeter, than the chocolate you are serving it with. Creamy flavored chocolates match up best with light bodied wines, while dark chocolates call out for a more full bodied wine. White wine and white chocolate are considered a good combination by some and many types of champagne are neutral, blending well with any chocolate. Why not try it for yourself?
The San Diego office of ACCESS Destination Services offers “A Day of Decadence” at the new, downtown San Diego Wine & Culinary Center, combining wine and chocolate with pampering available next door at Spa Tiki! Experience chocolate like never before as the chocolate tasting becomes an art form – a real “palate pleasing” program or team building event. Our North County groups can experience this delightful combo in Temecula's wine country, where multiple wineries are introducing chocolate features, taking the lead from Wilson Creek Winery with its chocolate shot glasses and Mt. Palomar Winery's port and sherry filled dark chocolate.
To add pizzazz to your next dinner event, consider “Chocolate Fantasy” – a five course meal with each course containing at least a hint of chocolate, paired with fine wines. Palate-pleasing décor accents include a chocolate logo item or truffle at each place setting along with a menu written in gold on a chocolate menu card, artfully situated atop chocolate lamour linens with complementary colored apple green satin overlays. Centerpieces featuring apple green and chocolate orchids add to the setting, as do, of course, chocolate martinis!

Los Angeles
Avalon Hollywood & Spider Club, a 1200+ person capacity venue, located across from the famed Capitol Records tower, is Hollywood 's newest and hottest special event and party spot. In 2003, LA said goodbye to the Hollywood Palace, a grand venue that for decades hosted the biggest names in music as well as the first broadcast of the American Music Awards. In the 1950s, its stage was graced by the likes of Judy Garland and Bing Crosby followed by the Clash, Duran Duran, Prince and Nirvana in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Now Avalon Hollywood, sister club to the NYC Avalon, has risen from construction debris to become the premier nightlife location north of Hollywood and Vine.
The Spanish Revival architecture, long buried under make-overs, has been magnificently restored. The entertainment complex features a large main dance floor with two opposing bars and an exclusive upstairs lounge and dance area known as the Spider Club. This private club-within-the-club has a Moroccan influenced interior featuring Persian rugs, throw pillows, plush ottomans, a tiled patio with retractable roof and private cabanas that overlook Avalon's dance floor. This versatile venue is a perfect fit for corporate events and is the spot to see and be seen. Contact ACCESS and visit this venue on your next site inspection. Who knows, we might spot investor Dan Aykroyd checking out his investment!
