Event Highlight: 6abc Dunkin’ Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade
At ACCESS, one of our specialties producing large-scale, outdoor, public events. From block parties to art exhibits, these multi-faceted experiences can sometimes take months – even years to plan. Such is the case with ACCESS Philadelphia when co-producing the 6abc Dunkin’ Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade – the nation’s oldest and most beloved Thanksgiving Day Parade. Planning for the 2016 parade has been well underway for several months and is expected to be attended by over 750,000 people and viewed by more than 2.5 million on the local ABC television affiliate in Philadelphia!
The 6abc Dunkin Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade was created in 1920 by Gimbel’s Department Store- offered originally as a gift to the local orphaned and handicapped children. Years later, the Parade, sponsored and produced by 6abc WPVI-TV, remains an incredible gift to the city and all of its residents- it’s the “official open to the holiday season”.
The 3.5 hour live television spectacle includes: 18 marching bands, 12 floats, 15 giant inflatable balloons, 5000 participants and 600 volunteers, celebrity musical guests, broadway and local theater show casts, 17 choreographed production numbers; Walt Disney World characters and so much more!
Maria DiBenedetto, President and Partner of ACCESS Philadelphia, has been co-producing the event for 19 years with her esteemed partners and trusted friends, Todd Marcocci of Under the Sun Productions and John Best of J.M. Best Entertainment.
The trio of companies is responsible for the creative direction, casting, costuming, operations management; volunteer recruitment and management, television production, Sponsorship Fulfillment, booking all talent, Liaising with City Services, the massive sponsor parade zone, and so much more.
According to DiBenedetto the parade is a much loved Philadelphia holiday tradition, “It’s a true labor of love for a client who is family. And that is what Thanksgiving is all about – FAMILY!”
The 6abc Dunkin’ Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade has clearly become an American staple, and here at ACCESS we couldn’t be more proud that our team in Philadelphia has been contributing to its success for nearly 20 years.
